About Grandpa - John Boden

Grandpa the philosopher is John Boden. He really is a 75-year-old grandpa. He and his wife are grandparents to eleven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren who give them pride, joy, and happiness.

John served as a U.S. Marine helicopter pilot in Vietnam, successfully completing more than 750 combat missions. He published a book about those years of his life, “Klondike Playboy”

He was a nationally recognized expert in elder care issues and geriatric care management. He and has been an active member of the National Association of Professional Geriatric Care Managers and the National Guardianship Association. He also was the President of the Florida Guardianship Association.

It is Grandpa’s wish that you will benefit from the wonderful knowledge and experience of those who have gone before us. And, that this wisdom will help you become a better person, parent, and friend, while you also become wiser, as you proceed on your way through your life.

This collection of miscellaneous, ideas, opinions, and other items were retrieved as they were overheard, read, floated by in the ether, or that otherwise managed to sneak into my semi-absorbent brain. They are presented here in no order, or about any subject, or in any consistency of depth or importance. The thoughts or meanings run the gambit from the inane to the deepest of meaningfulness.

These are points of view I have collected to share with my grandchildren as I believe it will help them to be happier and more successful in their lives. I have decided to also show them publicly as perhaps there are others who would also like to share some of these points with others. I hope that will happen.

It is this philosopher’s desire that you will react differently to each item by laughing, stopping to think, analyzing, retelling, questioning yourself, but most importantly that you will listen more intently to the ideas, concepts, and opinions of others. If you can learn to do that, it will be easier for you to understand that we all are as often wrong as we are right.

When I know where an item in this collection came from I will identify the source. But under all circumstances I do not claim that anything I have included is some pure original thought of my own. I ascribe to the belief there is nothing new in the universe but if I am wrong about that, and a new thought was produced, it was certainly not produced by me.

To be the best grandpa to as many people as I can.

I had a wonderful Grandfather who I realize, as I look back, was a wonderful teacher. But, I never realized that he was teaching or that, even more importantly, he was teaching me how to learn. I hope that while digesting the items in Grandpa’s Philosophy you too will learn how to be a better learner.
